Andy was born in Scotland where he still lives today, studying as an Undergraduate at the University of Strathclyde – within the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering. Andy’s main training base is Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy alongside Largs SC for when he’s training locally.
After starting windsurfing in 2011 at Loch Insh Watersports in the Scottish Highlands, Andy went on to join the Local RYA T15 Club. After participating in local racing he swiftly progressed to RYA Winter Training as part of the Scottish Development Team on the Isle of Cumbrae. From there he joined the UK circuit and was selected to the UK National Junior Squad.
Andy had a strong Junior career, storming the Techno class nationally and performing within the top 5 at international events.
From there he was selected into the British Youth Sailing Team and has so far represented GB at over 10 International events.
Andy is part of the British Sailing Team training as part of the Podium Pathway group, representing GB at a World Class level.. He is supported in his undergraduate studies by the Winning Students Scholarship programme.
2017 saw Andy Win his 1st Major International Medal, with a Bronze this July at the U19 World Championships and also make a significant improvement in the Senior 9.5m Olympic Class. Representing GB at both the Senior European and World Championships.
Andy’s most successful year yet was in 2018 where he competed as a senior at major international events, including both the European championships (3rd U21 / 16th overall) and the World championships (2nd U21 / 31st overall).
Going into 2019 Andy’s focus will be on the Olympic trials .and qualifying for the 2020 Olympic games. He is currently training full time for his campaign whilst taking a break from his academic studies at Strathclyde University.
